Giuseppe Verdi Giuseppe Verdi was born in Italy in 1813. He began his career by failing the entrance exam for a Milan Conservatory. He continued studying and completed his first opera at the age of 25. Four years later the opera La Scala was a huge success. Many operas followed including: Ernani (1844), Rigoletto (1851), La traviata (1853), La forza del destino (1861), among others. These operas gained him worldwide fame. Aida was one of the most publicized events in opera history. Verdi was his own critic and saught to meet no higher standard than his own. He died in 1901.
