Aaron Copland Aaron Copland aspired to music as a child and published his first work at the age of 20yr. He later studied with Nadia Boulanger in Paris. He had a mentor in Serge Koussevitsky, who premiered his early works such as the jazz-infused Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in 1927. He became best known for his evocations of Americana in such works as EL Salon Mexico (1933-1936), Appalachian Spring (1944), and music for programs - Lincoln Portrait (1942), and films - Our Town (1944). He also wrote a book titled What to Listen for in Music. Aaron Copland was born in New York,U.S.A. in 1900 and lived until 1990.
